[4] The disease caused by Aerococcus has been underestimated, but mass spectrometry could be a simple method for identifying this pathogen. In this study, we report 2 cases of urinary tract infection by Aerococcus sanguinicola. A descriptive clinical-microbiological study was conducted on the presence of A. sanguinicola causing urinary tract infections. sanguinicola. The most distinguishing characteristic of Aerococcus sp. is their gram stain morphology of large GPCs in clusters.

Species belonging to the Aerococcus genus are isolated from the urine and blood of elderly patients suffering from urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, the clinical significance, phenotypic features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of these underestimated and/or misidentified species remain unclear. 2018-10-01 Most Aerococcus species will grow in Salt Broth but A. sanguinicola is the only species that is usually Bile Esculin (+). Commercial ID systems have limited abilities to ID A. urinae/A. viridans and will not recognize A. sanguinicola. The most distinguishing characteristic of Aerococcus sp. is their gram stain morphology of large GPCs in clusters.

Aerococcus urinae is often misclassified in routine diagnostic laboratories. A. urinae shares features with staphylococci, streptococci and enterococci as the bacterium grows in clusters, displays a-haemolysis when grown on blood agar, and is resistant to sulphonamide. We report here, a case study of A. urinae, which initially was misdiagnosed. 2009-07-08

N2 - Since Aerococcus sanguinicola was designated as a species in 2001, only a few cases of bacteremia have been reported.

Mostly known to cause urinary tract infection, it can cause bacteremia leading to severe urosepsis and infective endocarditis. Embolization is frequently reported with Aerococcus urinae endocarditis (AUE); hence, the presentation is highly variable. This proteome is part of the Aerococcus sanguinicola pan proteome Busco i
